SAY! Social Action with Youth

Youth Action TEEMs: As the diverse community
of empowered youth advances in their abilities to work together
collaboratively, communicate with empathy, understand feelings,
needs and strategies and transform conflicts, they can begin to
participate in Youth Action TEEMs. With the support of
coaches, they work in the outer community on projects that interest
them. They practice their communication, problem-solving and conflict
resolution skills within their teams toward something that is
meaningful for them.

CALL! Community Action Life Leadership
When Youth Action TEEMs have demonstrated their skills
effectively for a period of time, they learn to use Sociocracy
and Open
Space Technologies to assist groups in pursuit of creative solutions.
They can also work collaboratively with other groups or organizations
on a variety of community action projects that could benefit from
their support.
Mahatma Ghandi said that the outcome was not his goal as much as
how people worked together toward change. The social change and
peace for which we strive does not rely on noble causes. Instead
it is the culture and the connections between the youth with each
other and the community that feeds us and our mission of peace.
Whether it is about what "students should learn at school"
or "where people can walk their dogs", it supports peace
when a group can listen to each other’s feelings, needs and
values; give empathy to themselves and others; and work toward connection,
understanding and outcomes that meet those needs and values. |

Exponential Social Change Initiative
As the youth make decisions about school, career, relationship,
family, community, etc., they are equipped with life skills and
are more self-aware. They will have a new language, vision and awareness
of how to sustain life-enhancing relationships and transform conflicts
based on a deep learning and experience they participated in through
their coming of age inter-generational community. They then become
leaders in our evolving culture of peace as they mentor the next
generation.
As the youth interact with each other and their friends and families,
those who experience the change in them have an opportunity to change
also. We invite them in to learn and practice with us. |
