We are working
in collaboration with youth coming-of-age programs.
Though CO.MUNITY Project's programs are co-ed, the coming-of-age programs
are usually for girls and boys separately.

Boys' Passage, Mentorship & Skill-building
• Boys To Men (BTM)
provides boys. ages 12 - 17, with a coming of age Rite
of Passage Adventure Weekend where positive qualities
such as integrity, courage, respect, passion, and leadership are
modeled by adult male staff.
• Through a series of carefully facilitated processes, each
boy discovers something of the scope of his own humanity. Boys
are challenged and supported in new ways, and find that they can
respond in new ways. They find their own integrity, courage, respect,
passion, and leadership and they discover that they can access
these qualities and put them to work.
• It is an exhilarating, life-changing experience that many
say they will never forget.
• After the weekend, the "Journeymen" (as they
are called) attend twice a month J-groups with peers and mentors.
Hawk of May (HOM)
• Boys ages 9 and up can participate in Hawk
of May Council. The Boys
Council curriculum is a strengths-based group approach
to promote boys’ and young men’s safe, strong and
healthy passage through pre-teen and adolescent years.
• They can also participate in Hawk of May
Journey training modules in various modalities
like Wilderness Education, Adventure Leadership and Empowerment
Arts.

Girls'
Passage, Mentorship & Skill-building
• Girls
Initiate
provides girls with an assortment of programs where life-serving
qualities such as acceptance,
authentic self-expression, empowerment and leadership are modeled
by adult female staff.
• For girls ages 9 & up, Girls Circle,
in afterschool, weekend and camp formats, are curriculum modules
that address specific themes and issues facing girls today.
• They can explore ways to make empowered and independent
choices that support their own personal goals. Girls are taught
to honor themselves and each other with confidence, strength and
conscious decision-making.
• For girls ages 12 - 17, Coming of Age Passage
& Mentorship program is co-created by girls and their
families. Girls can start to look at what it means to be a woman...
depicted everywhere throughout history and culture and how it
relates to them now. They can choose from four basic formats:
Girls Transition focus on education
and exploration; Girls Express focus
in arts; Crescent Moon Mysteries focus
on the Feminine depicted in ancient / native traditions, archetypes
and the Moon cycles; Daughters of the Earth
focus on wilderness mentoring. more
• The passage weekend will be an immersion into the exploration
of each girl's personal passage needs in a group context with
the support of staff and their mentor-muses.
• After the weekend, for 9 months, each young woman and
her peers are held in a Mentorship-Circle of nurturing and affirming
women; an environment that she may cherish as a place to be herself.
• Girls are given support and encouragement to find their
voice and to consider their evolving identity and changing body
image. Each girl can explore where she fits in and with whom she
identifies as part of her self-discovery process as an emerging
young woman. more
